HISTORY
Carlos Ramirez was born in the early of the 1800s in what is now known as the province of Pinar del Rio. Where in the 16th century, the Spaniards established their first tobacco plantation. As a child when he moved with his parents to Havana, he often recalled his native land. After the death of his father, the Ramirez family came to have exsistential complications. As a result, the young Carlos Ramirez returned to his birthplace and homeland where he inherited land from his grandparents and started his own tobacco plantation. At first he only harvested tobacco leaves which at the time, were the most popular tobacco product. In a small work shop he produced his own personal hand crafted high quality cigars. When he visited his closest friends in Havana he always offered his highest quality cigars from his production. His friends praised him the excellence of their quality. Before he would return home, his friends were always sure to order a supply from "Ramirez's domestic cigars", and so in 1830 he branded his collection CUBANO AMIGO.
The closest friends of the Ramirez family cared for the expansion of the business and Cubano Amigo soon became a traditional brand. Descendants of the Ramirez family continued the tradition of the tobacco production whie retaining the value of "homemade" qaulity. The first of the family to leave native Cuba was the second grandson Raul Ramirez, who continued to develop the family brand. The original plantation still exists today, but the "Cuban workshop" finished its production shortly after Castro's revolution, when the rest of the family went into exile.
